Renovation of the Jan De Vos Tunnel in Antwerp
We are proud to highlight the start of the roof renovation of the Jan De Vos Tunnel in Antwerp, carried out together with Stadsbader. After more than 40 years, a thorough renewal was necessary. The project, awarded during the last construction holiday, is already in full swing – a fine example of the strength and efficiency within Stadsbader Group.
We are currently working in and on the tunnel tube in the Brussels direction. The team has already removed the existing mastic asphalt. Meanwhile, several crews are active in separate zones, each seamlessly following the previous one. In one zone, a team removes the glass tiles; once that is completed, the next team installs formwork and reinforcement on the exposed structure. The openings are then carefully filled with concrete.
The works continue seven days a week in two shifts, proof of strict planning and strong collaboration between the teams involved. Traffic signalling, including the tunnel closure and traffic detours, is also managed internally within Stadsbader Group.
Once all the openings have been concreted and finished, our colleagues from Gama take over, applying a waterproofing layer in mastic asphalt to the tunnel roof. At the same time, we provide a fire-resistant finish inside the tunnel.
As soon as this side is completed, the works will move to the tube in the Antwerp direction, where the same sequence of steps will be carried out.
