Opening of the Hallerbos Ecoduct

Opening of the Hallerbos Ecoduct

At the end of February, we celebrated the official opening of the Hallerbos Ecoduct. In the presence of Jo Brouns, Flemish Minister of Environment, and Ben Weyts, Flemish Minister for the ‘Vlaamse Rand’ and Animal Welfare, we inaugurated the green crossing and planted the first trees. The ecoduct spans the Brussels Ring Road and restores the connection between the two parts of the Hallerbos forest, allowing more than 200 animal species to cross safely.

Before the construction, the existing bridge was demolished. We then built two tunnel sections, each 65 meters wide, making this the widest ecoduct in Flanders. Five meters are reserved for a cycling and walking path, while animals can use the remaining 60 meters freely. Throughout 2025, the verges will be further seeded, and the ecoduct will be planted, ensuring a smooth crossing for a wide variety of wildlife.
