Renewal of the roof plate of the Berlaymont tunnel and realisation of two new emergency exits
In September 2019, we started work on the renewal of the roof plate of the Berlaymont tunnel on L161L161 Schaerbeek-Namur. The job consisted mainly of earthworks and demolition of the existing bridge decks, demolition and modification of the abutments, construction of new girders and installation of the new prestressed bridge decks. At the same time, we also realised two new emergency exits there, and carried out the associated roadworks.
Given the location - in a busy residential street which severely limited the workspace - the tight deadline, and the requirement to minimise disruption to rail traffic, this site presented quite a few challenges. But we succeeded in this too!
