Design & Build

On behalf of Aperam Stainless Belgium SA, we carried out this Desing&Build project at the Genk site. The stainless steel producer's production capacity was expanded by the construction of an additional 'continuous pickling line' named BUL4 and a 'cold roller' named CRM5. STADSBADER CONTRACTORS was responsible for the design and execution of the building and machinery foundations. The complex set of concrete artworks with formwork and steel components to be poured in were modelled in 3D. A total of roughly 15,500m³ of concrete was poured on the site using 151 pumping units in the middle of the industrial park. In total, in addition to reinforcement, 207 tonnes of steel were incorporated into the concrete to enable the placement of building and machine parts. Anchors, sleeves, weld plates, ... were placed within millimetre tolerance under the supervision of 2 full-time land surveyors. In addition to the concrete structures, we laid a new concrete road next to the factory halls as well as sewerage and hydrant pipes and did the masonry of computer rooms including interior finishing. We also applied oil- and acid-resistant coatings to the new and connecting concrete foundations.
